Star Wars Cake

Star Wars Cake

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away….. a Star Wars cake was formed!

Decorating Supplies Used:

How to decorate your cake:

Both tiers were covered in Fat Daddio black fondant. On each tier a different technique was used to decorate the fondant to add a “galaxy” look to the cake.

Bottom Tier:

Once the fondant air crusted for about 1 hour a sponge coat of Edible Art paint was applied. The first coat was the Edible Art white, in which a quick movement of dabbing the paint onto the cake was applied in random areas. Then the Edible Art Blue was applied once the bottom coat of white was dry (about 15 mins). This again was a random application by dabbing with a sponge. The finished top layer was using the Edible Art Violeta is a smaller dab to add an accent.

Once the last coat was dry a splatter effect was applied by dipping the paint brush in the Edible Art White and then using your fingers to pull back on the brush head and let go while pointing at the cake. This is a completely random spray and will be dependent on the look that you like.

To finish this off Triangle Dragees where added in a random formation as accents.

Top Tier:

Using a bit of clear piping gel as an adhesive for the sprinkles – lightly paint the gel on the sides of the cake in the areas that you would like the sprinkles to stick starting at the bottom. Once the sprinkles are placed you can now add the ganache drip top.

Put the container of ganache in the microwave at 10 sec intervals and stir between until you get a soft but not too runny consistency. It should run slowly and smoothly off your spoon but not pour off. Using a piping bad fill with the warmed ganache and cut the tip off of the piping bag. You don’t want too big of an opening just enough to control the flow of the ganache. Going around the top of the cake slowly go over the edge with the ganache randomly. This will allow the “drips” to form and set. The harder you squeeze the longer the drip on the side of the cake. Once the edge has been covered then fill in the top with ganache and smooth with a spatula. You do have to work fairly fast so that the ganache doesn’t set up too quickly.

Add the Darth Vadar topper to the top – we “hot glued” a lolly stick to the back to prop it up on an angle for more of a visual or you could lay it flat on the top tier. We also added the star candles around the cake topper to finish the cake off.

Finish Line:

Using the remaining black fondant, roll and cut out the letters for your saying using the Ateco Letters cookie cutters.

May the 4th be with your cake decorating adventures!!!
